About us ....

CAP was established by a group of ex pats from Luxembourg, Holland,Germany and the UK and legally registered at the end of August 2009. Its aims are to provide care and protection for animals (stray or otherwise) in the regions of Kokkini Hani, Gournes and Gouves, although since 2003 stray and unwanted dogs are by law the responsibility of the municipalities. To date many local authorities do not take this responsibility they provide neither facilities or assistance - we consistently work towards improving this situation - we need to change attitudes.

The situation in Crete and throughout Greece with regard to the care of stray animals is sadly missing. In many instances small groups such as our own are the only facilities available to the many thousands of stray animals.
This volunteer help made available by many devoted people both Greek and ex pats is financed completely on money raising efforts which they themselves run along with financial aid given by charities based overseas.
We receive no financial assistance from the local authorities or the government.
We run sterilisation programs with the vital help of overseas volunteer vets. This is the most crucial single necessity to begin the management and control of the stray animal population in any country. Here in Greece it is essential.
Stray animals in this country get a really raw deal Many are faced with rejection - viewed as disease carrying - considered as irrelevant  - treated with  contempt - thrown into rubbish bins - poisoned with baited food.
Their plight is off the agenda of most that could work for improvements.

We are a non profit organisation and raise money  through donations, selling CAP products with our logo and  by holding local bazaars.

What we do....

We have to date since the end of May 2010 re homed OVER 400 animals in countries abroad including Austria,Germany Holland and the UK  we have many safe in Gouves shelter and placed in foster care here who need adoptions. We also work towards re homing cats. These animals require microchips and vaccinations to obtain passports and if old enough are sterilised before they go.
We have also been successful in re homing dogs and cats locally during the course of the year and hope to continue with this throughout the coming year.
Meantime we are preparing animals for their journey to new homes overseas
We also of course support the street dogs and cats and work towards sterilisation and providing new and loving homes for them with CAP funds raised from donations and the bazaars we hold locally.

If you too can give a dog or cat either a foster home or a new permanent home here or abroad please contact us through the website
or  write to us.

At this point we want to express our sincere thanks to all of those who have helped us during the past years. Without your invaluable support and that of the organisations who help us we would have not been able to meet the desperate requirements of the many animals in this area.
